The 2014 vintage
Thanks to a mild winter and a warm spring, the vines are already growing very early, about three weeks faster than in 2013.
The cool, contrasting months of May and June slowed vine growth, and in places caused heavy coulure at flowering.
A warm, wet and sunny summer, with occasional violent thunderstorms and hail, caused limited damage to the Lavaux vineyards.
A radiant September, with cool nights, provided ideal conditions for the grapes to concentrate their aromas and tannins. It’s also the moment chosen by the “cherry fruit fly”, a small fly from Asia, to attack the vineyards. This new plague forced us, especially for red grape varieties, to make a strict selection during the harvest.
With patience and respect for time, the time of the vegetation cycle, we began harvesting limited quantities on October 13.
The 2014 vintage is very tasty, mineral, persistent and balanced: enough to delight connoisseurs and new followers of our wines.
Cheers!
